Vibraphone
Alec Dube is a musician, composer and educator in Buffalo, NY. Throughout his earliest years, he has been interested in exploring a wide variety of styles in music. He quickly made a name for himself as a private instructor, and performer - frequently working as a sideman, and a bandleader in a number of projects. While studying under percussionists Kay Stonefelt and Dave Kayne, Alec was exposed to even more musical styles, deeply immersing him in studies of modern classical music, traditional west african music, and jazz. He was able to continue his studies in music education through an ongoing examination of pedagogy, and public school teaching. These focuses would help inspire his overall work as a musician, and to cultivate a personal playing style that has found a home in contexts both mainstream, and contemporary.
Alec received his B.M. in Music Education, as well as his M.M. in Performance from the State University of New York at Fredonia. He is a teacher in the Niagara Wheatfield School district, where he balances performing, and a full-time teaching schedule. He has continued his development of teaching, performing, and composing through collaborations with musicians such as Joe Locke, Shawn Pelton, Arturo Sandoval, Bobby Militello, The Fredonia Jazz Collective, and Bruce Johnstone. Current projects he is involved with include the The Buffalo Jazz Collective, The Buffalo Jazz Composers Workshop, Kelly Bucheger’s What Would Mingus Do?, as well as his own project Critical Mass. His work in these musical collaborations exemplify his passion for jazz, improvisation, and original music.
