Alan Jaenecke

Trombone

Alan Jaenecke began his jazz studies while attending Niagara Wheatfield High School, under the direction of Jack Lis and had the distinction of playing in NYSMMA’s Conference All-State Jazz Ensemble. After graduating high school, Alan pursued degrees in BS Business Administration and his MBA at SUNY Buffalo during which time he worked towards a dual degree in Music Performance. He studied classical trombone with Richard Myers (former principal trombonist of Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra) and played in a number of ensembles including UB Symphony Orchestra, UB Wind Ensemble, UB Trombone Choir and UB Jazz Ensemble (directed by Lee Bash and Chuck Gorino).

While in college, Alan joined the Musicians Union - Tonawanda’s Local 106 and Niagara Falls Local 209 and started playing professionally. Some of his early opportunities were subbing for the Jack Lis Orchestra, Ron Corsaro Big Band, George Beck Orchestra and Melody Fair Orchestra. Eventually, his playing landed him a regular chair in the Chuck Gorino Big Band (formerly Brian Lewis Big Band) and Gus Broncato Big Band. Over the years he has filled in for numerous bands and played regularly with Buffalo Bones, Phil Sims & Buffalo Brass and Musicians of Buffalo Big Band before the groups disbanded. In addition to WNY Big Band, Alan plays with Bob Meier and the Hitmen Horns Big Bang, Pyramid Band, and Buffalo Jazz & Swing Band.

A member of Buffalo Musicians Union, Local 92, Alan has been part of the local horn section for numerous acts including Aretha Franklin, Debbie Reynolds, Frankie Avalon, Bobby Vinton, Frankie Valli, Wayne Newton, The Temptations, Martha and the Vendellas, Sal Valentinetti, and The Scinta’s.
